Direct Techniques

Direct techniques work to directly increase motion of restricted areas in order to improve movement, reduce pain and increase circulation to aid healing. These techniques range from soft tissue massage and stretching, joint and nerve mobilisations, and joint manipulations which all act to increase range of movement and improve health and healing of restricted areas.

Indirect Techniques

Indirect techniques go with your body’s own preferences of motion finding positions of ease and relaxation. They are extremely gentle and relaxing. They act to increase circulation and reduce tension, both in muscles and the central nervous system, to help reduce pain, improve movement and facilitate relaxation to aid your bodies own natural healing.

A Natural Therapy

Osteopathy is a natural hands on therapy that works to reduce pain, promote health and support your bodies own natural healing process.

Osteopaths take a holistic view looking at the whole body and how muscles, bones, nerves and joints are all working together.

Your osteopath will take a full case history and then perform an in-depth assessment looking at the whole body to find out what’s causing your symptoms and then discuss with you to build a treatment plan to help get you back to full function.

Treatment includes wide range of hands on techniques such as massage, stretching, joint manipulation, and gentle mobilisation of nerves and joints. At Holland Park Osteopaths we take an integrated approach combining western medical acupuncture and exercise therapy.

Your First Appointment

At your first appointment your osteopath will ask you about your symptoms, when and how you started to feel any pain, and examine any pain areas as well as your general body mechanics and alignment.

Your osteopath will normally be able to give you a diagnosis, explain how many sessions you are likely to need, and proceed to treatment immediately.

Osteopathy is a gentle and non-invasive therapy so you shouldn’t normally feel any pain during treatment. Your osteopath will explain the treatment they are giving you, and you will be able to discuss and ask any questions you have as you go along.
